Edge computing has emerged as a complementary approach to cloud computing. In edge computing a, potentially large, set of computational nodes (sensors, mobile devices, computers, etc) cooperate among them to perform computations across a potentially large dataset which itself is generated in the edge of the networks (i.e, by the devices themselves).
In this thesis we plan to explore efficient and reliable mechanisms to perform dynamic decomposition and execution of computational tasks, in such a way tha different aspects of a computational task can be executed in different edge-devices according to their capacity, free resources, and the location of any input data relevant to the computation.
The work involves the design, implementation, and experimental evaluation of a prototype, which also involves thinking about a programming interface to simplify the specification of decomposable computations. |
