Breve descrição: An interesting way of reducing energy consumption (in buildings) consists of coordinating devices to achieve higher energetic efficiency. Even simple changes in the user habits, are known to achieve interesting reductions on energy costs in the order of 20-30%.

Current simulation tools are very bound to the hardware, ignoring both the usage patterns and building automatic behavior. Besides that, the complexity of such systems interacting together is never taken into account. For instance, it is easy to imagine an University Campus, with buildings, sections, rooms, with some energy footprint, and where users with different profiles (that can interact in all of them) are consuming energy according to some patterns.

This work will use a building simulation tool to create and calibrate a model of an existing smart room, and an existing agent based simulation tool to model room occupancy, with the goal of designing a controller that minimizes energy use.
Observações: This work will take place at the Nova Lincs Smart Lab, instrumented with IoT home automation solutions.
