Breve descrição: The Bitcoin/Blockchain, as well as a large majority of existent Blockchain development platforms, only provides eventual consistency. On the other hand, comparing with everyday life of on-line payment transaction processing systems, the time to confirm a Bitcoin transaction is prohibitively slow and blockchains have strong limitations in optimizing performance, consistency and scalability tradeoffs. In this dissertation we will study how to propose a new system, built on the Bitcoin/Blockchain design principles, for enabling strong consistency with better security, performance and scalability. As a proof-of-concept of the redesigned blockchain components we will see as cryptocurrency transactions verified by smart-contracts can be better supported, according to the above criteria.
